Partcle Astrophysics - A New View of the Universe

David Hanna

Historically, information about the universe came to us through telescopes which collect and focus visible light. More recently, astronomy has made use of other wavelengths, such as radio and X-rays, and this has resulted in a richer view of the cosmos. Now, physicists using techniques and concepts from the field of high energy particle physics have joined the enterprise. This talk will outline some of the recent advances made in the fields of very high energy gamma-ray astronomy and neutrino astronomy and describe experiments built in locations ranging from mountain tops to the bottom of the sea.
