Recent measurements of cm and mm wavelength radiation give a precise snapshot of the conditions in the universe at early times (a fraction 2/100 000 of its current age). This has allowed careful tests of our understanding of the big bang and ongoing experiments aim to push our understanding back to the age when the universe was far hotter than any terrestrial experiments could achieve.
