The State of the Universe

How old is the universe? How big is the universe? What is it made of? These are simple questions to ask, and have been asked for centuries (at least). It is only relatively recently that we have started to have quantitative answers to these questions through careful astronomical observations. I will explain how we think we know some of these answers.
