The bold assertion of holography is that some ordinary field theories are secretly theories of quantum gravity. Holography is a robust framework that has the potential to solve the long-standing puzzle of emergence of classical spacetime in quantum gravity, and tied to it is the microscopic origin of black hole thermodynamics. I'll review various aspects of holography and current progress in the field.
