The top quark was recently discovered at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the CDF and D0 collaborations. This very massive elementary particle has many interesting and unique properties. A detailed characterization of those properties is an important goal of the current experimental running period at the Tevatron (Run II).

I will give an introductory overview of top quark with an emphasis on its electroweak properties. I will then discuss top physics prospects for Run II.
