Tachyon condensation at c=1

Joanna L Karczmarek

Harvard University

I will review the c=1 matrix model, and the recent solutions corresponding to time dependent backgrounds. I will then focus on one such background, where the matrix model has an exact quantum solution corresponding to closed string tachyon condensation along a null surface. The condensation occurs, and spacetime dissolves, at a finite retarded time on I+. I will also describe other time dependent solutions, including finite extent evolving cosmological solutions.
