Patrick Irwin Université de Montréal The talk will give a description of the Skyrme model as an effective theory of QCD at low energies, where nucleons arise as solitons of the meson fields. Classical solutions for nucleon numbers one to nine are now known. Using their similarities to BPS monopoles a simple quantization of these solitons is performed and the results compared to nuclear data.
