HEP Theory Journal ClubConstructing Microstates for the BTZ Black HoleKale ColvilleMcGillIn this talk we will examine a proposition for constructing the microstates of the BTZ black hole in chiral gravity. These microstates are obtained by changing the geometry behind the horizon of the black hole. In this regard the microstates are classically indistinguishable from the BTZ black hole to an asymptotic observer. We will count the number of such microstates obtained in the semi-classical limit and compare to the entropy associated with the black hole. A large portion of this discussion is based on arXiv:1508.04079 by Alexander Maloney.
