Probing strongly coupled gauge theories with AdS/CFT

Sera Cremonini

University of Michigan

The gauge gravity duality has proven to be a powerful tool for probing thermal and hydrodynamic properties of strongly coupled field theories, with possible applications to the realm of RHIC and more generally QCD. In this talk I will discuss some of the recent applications of AdS/CFT to the conjectured bound on the ratio of the shear viscosity to entropy density. In particular, I will focus on the role played by higher derivative (curvature) corrections at finite chemical potential.
