Nuclear modification of jet multiplicities

Igor Dremin

Lebedev Institute

Equations for the QCD generating functions of multiplicity distributions are modified to account for nuclear effects. It is shown that the mean multiplicities in quark and gluon jets produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions are sensitive to these modifications. Their increase with energy becomes power-like. Combined with rapidity spectra, they can be used as a QGP thermometer. The effective coupling strength is related to softening of particles spectra and to the temperature regimes during the collision.
