De Sitter Space and EFT Breakdown

Maxim Emelin

We argue that a generic ansatz for a time-independent type IIB compactification to de Sitter space does not admit an effective field theory description. After describing the causes of this EFT breakdown and its relation to the Dine-Seiberg problem, we will explain how the EFT description may be restored by introducing time-dependence into the ansatz and present our recent work towards constructing such a background.
