Handling constraints: the good, the bad and the ugly

Veronica Errasti Diez

LMU Munich

Constrained systems are a cornerstone to physics. They include gauge, gravity and supersymmetric theories. However and most unfortunately, mistreatments of these systems abound in the literature. Focusing on Generalized Proca theories for concreteness, I will present the simplest method available to date for their correct analysis (the good), I will point out the most frequent mistakes being made (the bad) and I will draw attention to scenarios that still challenge us (the ugly). Both the classical and quantum regimes will be discussed.
