Holographic Superconductors

Gary Horowitz

University of California, Santa Barbara

Over the past two years, it has been shown that certain properties of condensed matter systems can be reproduced by studying perturbations of black holes in higher dimensional spacetimes. This remarkable correspondence is a consequence of gauge/gravity duality. I will describe recent work in which various properties of superconductors are reproduced by studying a dual gravitational system. This will hopefully provide a new tool for analyzing high T_c superconductors.
