Singularity resolution inside radiating 2-D black holes

Gabor Kunstatter

University of Winnipeg

I will present a study of the homogeneous sector of the RST model describing the gravitational dynamics of 2-d black holes, including radiation back-reaction. The exact solutions are found both in conformal gauge and in time-parametrized form, allowing the black hole sector of the phase space to be identified. Quantization of the near singularity dynamics in conformal gauge allows different choices of measure and self-adjoint extensions that lead to inequivalent quantum theories, all of which resolve the singularity. For a specific range of extension parameters, the Hamiltonian spectrum admits bound states that may correspond physically to stable remnants. Finally, I will touch on some tentative new work on the Dirac and reduced quantization of the full (homogeneous) theory.
