Testing the Higgs mechanism

Heather Logan

Carleton University

The Higgs mechanism is the most attractive explanation for the origin of the masses of subatomic particles. In order to test this explanation, we need to discover the Higgs boson and measure its couplings to Standard Model particles. I will review the prospects for measuring Higgs couplings at the LHC and ILC, focusing on theoretical uncertainties and ways that model assumptions can be applied to gain additional information.
