Critical point of strongly interacting matter: would it be observed?

Rashid Mehdiyev

Université de Montréal

I will review the current status and future prospects in searches for the critical point of strongly interacting matter and the onset of deconfinement in high energy ion collisions.

The existing data from RHIC and CERN SPS will be discussed and a new physics program with ions at SPS, based on the Letter of Intent by a NA49-Future collaboration, will be presented.
