The Strong Sphaleron Rate from the Euclidean Lattice

Guy Moore

Technische Universitat Darmstadt

The strong sphaleron rate controls the equilibration of quark chirality in hot QCD. Existing methods to calculate the rate based on the classical-field approximation only work at temperatures above 100GeV and are therefore inapplicable to heavy-ion physics. I will explain a new approach to determining saddlepoint-dominated rates such as the strong sphaleron rate using Euclidean lattice QCD, and I will present a determination of the strong sphaleron rate in pure-glue QCD at temperatures down to 1.3 Tc.
