Local Subsystems in Gauge Theory and Gravity

Faroogh Moosavian

McGill

With the aim of giving a definition of entanglement entropy in quantum gravity, Donnelly and Freidel took up the task of defining and an in depth analysis of localized subsystems in gauge theory and gravity based on canonical formalism. In this talk I will explain the formalism they have developed in Local subsystems in gauge theory and gravity (arXiv:1601.04744) with less emphasis on its application to entanglement entropy. In particular, I will explain the notion of surface symmetry group which is one of the central results of their work. The aim is to prepare the ground for a future talk based on joint works with William Donnelly, Laurent Freidel, and Antony Speranza.
