Gravitation from Entanglement in holographic CFTs

Thom Pijnenburg

Amsterdam

This talk will cover the emergence of spacetime, in the form of the linearized Einstein equations, from a ‘first law’ of entanglement entropy which can be considered as an exact quantum generalization of the ordinary first law of thermodynamics. After a motivation to consider studying the relation of entanglement entropy and gravity, I will follow Van Raamsdonk's reasoning that in any CFT with semiclassical holographic dual, this first law has an interpretation in the dual gravitational theory as a constraint on the dual spacetimes. These constraints can then be turned into the linearized Einstein equations for theories satisfying the Ryu-Takayanagi formula, as well as for higher-curvature theories.
