Nonsingular spacetimes with limiting curvature

Jerome Quintin

McGill

I will review the idea of resolving spacetime singularities (e.g., the Big Bang singularity or the singularity inside a Schwarzschild black hole) with limiting curvature. I will show different implementations of the limiting curvature hypothesis, for example with modified gravity involving higher-curvature terms in the action or with mimetic gravity. I will end by discussing the strengths and weaknesses of such theories as effective field theories.
