2d chiral algebras associated to 4d superconformal field theories

Any four-dimensional N=2 superconformal field theory (SCFT) admits a subsector of operators and observables isomorphic to a vertex operator algebra. I will review this correspondence (first identified in arXiv:1312.5344), and then focus on the question of how the Higgs branch of the SCFT (as an algebraic geometric object) is encoded in the vertex operator algebra (arXiv:1707.07679).
