Emergency Radiation Mapping
Laurel Sinclair
Geological Survey of Canada Natural Resources Canada
Under the Federal Nuclear Emergency Plan, Natural Resources Canada is
responsible for providing aerial mapping of radioactivity in the event of
an accidental or malicious dispersion. The emergency response systems are
sensitive to gamma and neutron fields and are related to detectors used in
particle and medical physics. New gradiometric and imaging techniques have
the potential to improve significantly our capability to guide responders
in search and recovery operations. A description of our current response
methods, and our investigations into new techniques, will be presented.
