The Kerr/CFT correspondence

Wei Song

Harvard

We studied the near horizon region of extremal Kerr black holes. A consistent boundary condition is shown to exist, for which the asymptotic symmetry group is a copy of conformal group with a left moving central charge. The Frolov-Thorne vacuum is shown to be in a thermal state with a left moving temperature. With the assumption that the conformal field theory is unitary, a microscopic counting of the entropy using Cardy's formula gives exactly the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Based on this, we conjecture that extremal Kerr black holes are holographically dual to a chial two dimensional conformal field theory with the left moving central charge determined by the angular momentum of black holes.
