Unwinding the amplituhedron

In recent years, Arkani-Hamed and his collaborators have been working on a new approach to scattering amplitudes for N=4 super Yang-Mills, in which Feynman diagrams are replaced by certain “on-shell” diagrams related to the geometry of positive Grassmannians. Amplituhedra were introduced by Arkani-Hamed and Jaroslav Trnka (arXiv:1312.2007) as part of this program. I will give some background on their general approach, and then discuss joint work with Arkani-Hamed and Trnka in which we provide a new and simpler definition of amplituhedra.
