Quantum Field Theory Without Lagrangians

Brian Wecht

University of Michigan

I will describe recent progress in understanding strongly coupled field theories which have no known Lagrangian descriptions, even in the ultraviolet. Although we often do not know the basic degrees of freedom for these theories, we can still make surprisingly strong statements when there is N=2 or N=1 supersymmetry, and we can use geometric constructions or dualities to give exact results. I will also discuss how we can use such models to generate many new superconformal field theories.
