nflation in the Cosmic Landscape

Jiajun Xu

Cornell University

Motivated by the possibility of inflation in the cosmic landscape (which emerges in string theory compactification), we study the inflationary evolution and the density perturbation in multi-field inflation with a d-dimensional random potential. We argue why many e-folds of inflation is more natural in such a scenario. This scenario also predicts a cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB) power spectrum with fluctuations on different angular scales. Such fluctuations may be detected in the power spectrum as well as in the polarization (TE/EE) spectrum in the near future with a cosmic variance limited experiment like PLANCK.
