Higgsing the stringy higher spin symmetries

I will discuss recent developments in connecting the 3d higher spin/CFT2 duality to the stringy AdS3/CFT2 correspondence. These results suggest that, in the context of the D1-D5 system, the symmetric product orbifold CFT is dual to string theory in the tensionless limit. The theory has a gigantic symmetry algebra in this limit and contains the higher spin algebra as a closed subsector. I will then discuss the behaviour of the symmetry generators of the theory as the string tension is turned on, which in the dual CFT language corresponds to a deformation of the symmetric orbifold theory. Stringy higher spin symmetries are higgsed as a result, and the generators fall into Regge trajectories.
